The Walking Dead has a 12 year plan.

The phenomenally successful Zombie show, could become cable's longest running series.

At a conference by the Producer’s Guild of America, The Walking Dead producer David Alpert suggested that his team has plans that reach as far as a potential season 12.   “We know where season 11 and 12 … we have benchmarks and milestones for those seasons if we’re lucky enough to get there.”  Previously AMC (where The Walking Dead airs) executives have suggested that they would like the series to run forever if possible.  “We hope that zombies live forever, and we’ve just begun to find out what the post-apocalyptic world is like, so that we’ll be sitting here at the Barclays conference in 2022 discussing the fact that ‘Walking Dead”  said AMC Networks CEO Josh Sapan in 2013.

The Walking Dead is the highest rated show on cable with more than 15 million estimated viewers in America.  AMC is still in talks to produce a spin-off series not based on the comic books.  The Walking Dead Season 5 begins this October on AMC, previous seasons can be watched on Netflix for those who want to catch up.
