TVEnthusiast Newsletter 001 – February 18th, 2018

Soon, TVEnthusiast will be launching a weekly newsletter filled with easily digestible content ranging from episode impressions to news to a schedule of upcoming shows.  Though it is not yet an actual newsletter, nor does it have a true name yet, we are experimenting with it as a weekly article that will eventually  turn into a newsletter.

Without further ado, here is the first issue of our yet to be titled newsletter.


  • Casting has been announced for the sophomore season of Netflix’s The Santa Clarita Diet. Actors joining the cast, in guest roles, include Joel McHale (Community), Maggie Lawson (Psych), Gerald McRaney (Deadwood), and Zachary Knighton (Happy Endings). Season 2 of The Santa Clarita Diet drops, in its entirety, this Spring.
  • Bradley Whitford (Cabin in the Woods) has joined the cast of The Handmaid’s Tale. The critically acclaimed feminist drama returns to Hulu this April.
  • Prolific Writer/Producer/Showrunner Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story) is sending waves through the industry with his massive new contract with Netflix. Murphy had previously become a staple of the Fox/FX family where he pushed out massive hits such as Nip Tuck, Glee, and recently American Crime Story. His 5 year deal with Netflix, is reportedly worth upwards of $250 Million.
  • NBC’s adaptation of Charlaine Harris’ (True Blood) Midnight, Texas has been renewed for a second season. The second season of the supernatural drama will be run by Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder who previously worked on the series as Producers under then-Showrunner and series creator Monica Owusu-Breen.
  • The CW will be expanding its programming block by 20% by adding a 6th day (Sunday) to its schedule, expanding their output to 12 hours of original programming per week.
  • TBS has made a pilot order for Lena Waithe’s (The Chi) comedy series Twenties, which follows the adventures of a “Queer Black Woman” and her straight best friends.
  • Mary J Blige has joined the cast of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy, about a dysfunctional Super Hero family. Blige has taken on the role of the time traveling Assassin Cha-Cha. Also joining the cast are Cameron Britton (Mindhunter), Colm Feore (Revolution), Adam Godley (Breaking Bad), and Ashley Madekwe (Salem).
  • Netflix is continuing to explore week to week content by picking up a new Late-Night format Talk Show hosted by Comedian and The Daily Show Contributor Michelle Wolf.
  • Showtime has added 5 to the cast of their “Black Monday” pilot Ball Street, joining series leads Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2) and Andrew Rannells (Girls) are Paul Scheer (The League), Regina Hall (Black-ish), Kurt Braunohler (The Big Sick), and in a guest role, Casey Wilson (Happy Endings).
  • Netflix has set a premiere date of May 30th for season 4 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, but the real news is that the season will be split into 2 parts, with the second half dropping later this year.
  • Youtube Red is developing a new comedy series starring Chris D’Elia (Alone Together) titled Psychopath, that follows a young man as he discovers that he is an actual psychopath.
  • Not content with its staggering 2 falgship original series, pay streaming service CBS All Access is developing Strange Angel starring Bella Heathcote (The Man in the High Castle). The series is based on the book of the same name by George Pendle and is being Produced by Mark Heyman (Black Swan) at Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions.
  • Recent castings for Netflix’s Riverdale spin-off Sabrina, based on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, include Lucy Davis (Wonder Woman) as Sabrain’s Aunt Hilda Spellman, Michelle Gomez (Doctor Who) as Sabrina’s favorite Teacher Mary Wardell who is possessed by Madam Satan, and Chance Perdomo (Midsomer Murders) as Ambrose Spellman, Sabrina’s mischievious pan-sexual Warlock cousin.
  • Guy Pearce (Memento) has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming supernatural teen romance drama The Innocents.
